BBC Raises The Bar for QR Codes on TV

Monday, July 11th, 2011

QR Codes were used tonight by the BBC (screenshot below) in the first of a new series ‘The Good Cook’ with food writer Simon Hopkinson. The QR Codes are displayed at the end of cooking each dish and resolve to a mobile page (screenshot in full below) with the ingredients, method and tips on the preparation of the dish. This is a well thought out page with links to other areas of the BBC Food site but the feature that I like is the ability to save the recipe to an online binder where you can store recipes and create menus.

Google+: the real Facebook enemy?

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

We’ve been all expecting it, speculating about it, predicting it – the real Facebook enemy. Would the new “Project Plus” from Google turn out or be as good and even better that Facebook, or would it be just another try soon being “left in the corner”? The promises for Google+ are big – here is a snapshot of what it is (or it would be when we all have a chance to try it).

The main features are:

Circles
The easiest way to share some things with college buddies, others with your parents and almost nothing with your boss.

Hangouts
Let friends know that you’re free for a video hangout, any time, anywhere. Then catch up, watch YouTube or… just hangout.

Sparks
A feed of only the things that you’re really into, so when you’re free, there’s always something waiting to be watched, read or shared.

+Huddle
Coordinating with friends and family in real-time is really hard in real life. After all, everyone’s on different schedules, in different places, and plans can change at any moment. Phone calls and text messages can work in a pinch, but they’re not quite right for getting the gang together. So Google+ includes Huddle, a group messaging experience that lets everyone inside the circle know what’s going on, right this second.

Google+ is available on Android Market and the mobile web, and it’s coming soon to the App Store.
